{"id":51774,"date":"2014-01-14T09:50:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-14T07:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/51774\/class-of-2013-celebrates\/"},"modified":"2014-01-14T10:01:11","modified_gmt":"2014-01-14T08:01:11","slug":"class-of-2013-celebrates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/01\/14\/class-of-2013-celebrates\/","title":{"rendered":"Class of 2013 celebrates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Matric pupils throughout the country celebrated the release of the 2013 matric results, last Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Germiston students flocked to schools around the city to collect their certificates in order to start planning their futures.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The GCN chatted to some of the city&#8217;s school principals to find out how their schools fared.<\/p>\n<p>Dries du Preez, the principal of Ho\u00ebrskool Elspark, said: &#8220;I am very happy with the results.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Our overall symbols were up and the teachers did a good job with the matric students.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The school had a 96 per cent pass rate from its 130 matric students.<\/p>\n<p>Between them they achieved 54 distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>The top student from Ho\u00ebrskool Elspark was Samantha Rudman, with three distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>Dawnview High recorded a 94 per cent pass rate from its 150 full-time and one part-time students.<\/p>\n<p>The school got 43 distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>Their top achievers were Mokoena Moloto, Amanda Mlambo and Khensani Mthetho, each with three distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Moeketsie Kolokoto said: &#8220;I am delighted with the results, especially with Mokoena&#8217;s results, because she was headgirl and proved a great success in her studies, as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A 92 per cent pass rate was recorded by Afrikaanse Ho\u00ebrskool Germiston.<\/p>\n<p>The school had 120 matric pupils and between them they achieved 30 distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Retha du Toit told the GCN that she was happy with the school&#8217;s results.<\/p>\n<p>The top pupils at the school were Jana-Mari Bloem with five distinctions, and Zande Bann with four distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>Ho\u00ebrskool Primrose High achieved a 91 per cent pass rate from its 134 pupils.<\/p>\n<p>The pupils achieved 33 distinctions between them.<\/p>\n<p>The top pupil was Tafadzna Moyo, with three distinctions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51776\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51776\" style=\"width: 423px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2014\/01\/02gmscho2_518845030.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-51776\" alt=\"Tristan Odnampersad and Theo Moetse, from Ho\u00ebrskool Primrose High, were among the matrics to collect their marks and matric certificates at the school, last Tuesday.\" src=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2014\/01\/02gmscho2_518845030-423x317.jpg\" width=\"423\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2014\/01\/02gmscho2_518845030-423x317.jpg 423w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2014\/01\/02gmscho2_518845030-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2014\/01\/02gmscho2_518845030.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 423px) 100vw, 423px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tristan Odnampersad and Theo Moetse, from Ho\u00ebrskool Primrose High, were among the matrics to collect their marks and matric certificates at the school, last Tuesday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The School of Achievement&#8217;s principal, Tinus du Preez, said they had 40 matric students in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For the first time in 10 years we had one failure; the rest of our pupils did very well,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had 15 distinctions overall.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The school&#8217;s top achiever was Wade Cothill, with three distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Remember that the School of Achievement is a special school and our pupils are learning disabled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are all struggling academically and the fact that they did so well should never be downplayed,&#8221;
