{"id":44698,"date":"2013-09-30T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-30T06:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/44698\/the-misfortune-of-becoming-a-statisticorbeware-of-robbers-using-a-new-technique\/"},"modified":"2013-09-30T10:18:36","modified_gmt":"2013-09-30T08:18:36","slug":"the-misfortune-of-becoming-a-statisticorbeware-of-robbers-using-a-new-technique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/opinion-edition\/2013\/09\/30\/the-misfortune-of-becoming-a-statisticorbeware-of-robbers-using-a-new-technique\/","title":{"rendered":"The misfortune of becoming a statistic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Carol Milligan, of Primrose, writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On September 5 I had the misfortune of becoming a statistic.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>This happened when two guys forced my helper into the house.<\/p>\n<p>They went straight through to the main bedroom and demanded cellphones, jewellery, guns and money.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>These robbers are using a new technique, as they gain entry to your home without any weapons or tools.<\/p>\n<p>They merely use what they find in your home;in my case it was two pairs of scissors.<\/p>\n<p>The robbers are malicious and will not hesitate to hurt you if you don&#8217;t respond and refuse to do as they say.<\/p>\n<p>I plead with all the people who are home in the day to please be careful.<\/p>\n<p>Lock the doors when exiting or entering the house,even if you are just hanging washing on the line or taking out the rubbish bags.<\/p>\n<p>They seem to know everything about the household and appear to watch your every move before they strike.<\/p>\n<p>This guy even knew that my husband had passed away and was no longer there.<\/p>\n<p>They come into your house and have a guy on the outside with whom they communicate via a cellphone.<\/p>\n<p>This person is there to warn the robbers inside if anyone, be it a neighbour or SAPS officer,is heading to their location.<\/p>\n<p>Despite all this, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Primrose police for their prompt response.<\/p>\n<p>The officers were at my house within minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The police, unfortunately, were unable to catch the robbers, due to the fact that we were only able to contact them once the intruders had already left.<\/p>\n<p>The officers handled the situation and my family, which includes my helper, with the utmost compassion and respect.<\/p>\n<p>They even went above the call of duty and brought a pastor to the house to console my helper.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the incident I was distraught and I never took the time to get all the officers&#8217;
