{"id":250893,"date":"2020-04-22T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-22T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/250893\/covid-19-ward-councillor-urges-community-to-stand-together-and-help-one-another\/"},"modified":"2020-04-22T12:31:25","modified_gmt":"2020-04-22T10:31:25","slug":"covid-19-ward-councillor-urges-community-to-stand-together-and-help-one-another","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/opinion-edition\/2020\/04\/22\/covid-19-ward-councillor-urges-community-to-stand-together-and-help-one-another\/","title":{"rendered":"Covid-19: Ward councillor urges community to stand together and help one another"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Alta de Beer, Ward 39 councillor, writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the President\u2019s announcement of an extension to the lockdown period I am sure many residents, like me, were a bit disappointed.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>I feel for all the businesses, big and small, that are losing money on a daily basis, which is resulting in workers not been paid and many even facing retrenchment.<\/p>\n<p>I have received hundreds of calls from people in need of food and I am working very closely with various donors in an attempt to assist those who do not qualify for the food parcels from government.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>We have already distributed over 300 food parcels and will continue to work hard to assist where possible.<\/p>\n<p>This is a time for us to stand together. If you are in a position to assist please contact me on 082 777 1406.<\/p>\n<p>For those who do qualify for the government sponsored food parcels I send all these names to the Department of Social Development.<\/p>\n<p>I urge residents to use the remaining lockdown time to regroup because once we are back at work, there will be pressure to give the economy a kick-start.<\/p>\n<p>This might mean we will have to go that extra mile in our work places.<\/p>\n<p>I also urge the community to keep a healthy mind, keep to their daily routines and keep up with an exercise programme.<\/p>\n<p>This is also a good time to learn a new skill.<\/p>\n<p>There are lots of online courses available free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>Make use of this time to enhance yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Also don\u2019t forget that working in the garden or starting a vegetable garden is food for the soul and will bring calmness.<\/p>\n<p>Parents and children must please continue with the homework.<\/p>\n<p>Stay home, be safe and keep sane.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>* Notice: Coronavirus reporting at Caxton Local Media aims to combat fake news<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Dear reader,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">As your local news provider, we have the duty of keeping you factually informed on Covid-19 developments.
