The Boxster name has been with us since 1996 and over the years has defied the critics, who initially thought it wasn\u2019t a real Porsche. We are now at the point where it is considered one of the most satisfying convertibles to drive and is also very affordable.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-142838\" src=\"https:\/\/africanreporter.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2020\/04\/Porsche-Boxster-2001-1600-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>What to watch out for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-First-generation cars\u00a0(1996-2004), especially the\u00a02.5-litre\u00a0base models are known to have\u00a0cylinder liner issues;<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>-These models also have issues with the\u00a0rear main oil seal, so check for any oil leaks as replacing this inexpensive part requires a\u00a0huge amount of labour;<\/p>\n<p>-Slightly later year model cars also had issues with the\u00a0intermediate shaft\u00a0as a single-row bearing was used. If this fails your engine is destroyed;<\/p>\n<p>-Also, look out for cracked cylinder heads and dodgy water pumps;<\/p>\n<p>-Second generation (2005-2011) cars have all the engine issues resolved with very few failures reported.
