With lockdown in full effect you may not want to go buy hot cross buns this Easter.<\/p>\n

Here is an easy recipe to make your own at home.<\/p>

You will need:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Three quarters of a cup warm water.<\/p>

<\/div>\n

\u2022 Three tablespoons butter.<\/p>\n

\u2022 One tablespoon instant powdered milk.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A quarter cup white sugar.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A pinch of salt.<\/p>\n

\u2022 One egg.<\/p>\n

\u2022 One egg white.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Three cups all-purpose flour.<\/p>\n

\u2022 One tablespoon active dry yeast.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Three quarters of a cup dried currants.<\/p>\n

\u2022 One teaspoon ground cinnamon.<\/p>\n

\u2022 One egg yolk.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Two tablespoons water.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Half a cup icing sugar.<\/p>\n

\u2022 A quarter teaspoon vanilla extract.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Two teaspoons milk.<\/p>\n

What to do:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Put warm water, butter, skim milk powder, a quarter cup sugar, salt, egg, egg white, flour, and yeast in bread maker and start on dough program.<\/p>\n

When five minutes of kneading are left, add currants and cinnamon. Leave in machine till double.<\/p>\n

Punch down on floured surface, cover, and let rest 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

Shape into 12 balls and place in a greased pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place till double, about 35 to 40 minutes.<\/p>\n

Mix egg yolk and two tablespoons water. Brush on balls.<\/p>\n

Bake at 190 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes. Remove from pan immediately and cool on wire rack.<\/p>\n

To make the crosses, mix together the icing sugar, vanilla, and milk. Place glaze in a piping bag or a sandwich bag with the corner snipped off; pipe a cross onto each roll.<\/p>\n
