{"id":242895,"date":"2020-03-27T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-27T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/242895\/roseacres-prepared-for-lockdown\/"},"modified":"2020-03-27T08:55:27","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T06:55:27","slug":"roseacres-prepared-for-lockdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2020\/03\/27\/roseacres-prepared-for-lockdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Covid-19: Roseacres prepared for lockdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cAt Life Roseacres Hospital, the well-being of our patients, employees, doctors and visitors within the communities we serve is of utmost importance to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These were the words of Dr Charl van Loggerenberg, general manager of emergency medicine at Life Healthcare ahead of the nationwide lockdown.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<h4>ALSO READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/240401\/roseacres-shares-covid-19-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Covid-19: Roseacres shares Covid-19 plans<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>\u201cThe community can rest assured that all Life Healthcare hospitals will remain open and operational during the lockdown,\u201d said Loggerenberg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the situation continues to evolve, we are frequently consulting with government, our doctors and employees to ensure that our protocols and processes remain relevant for the needs of our patients.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis means that all our patients needing urgent health care will receive the quality care that they need at our hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere surgeries are still scheduled to take place, we believe that our doctors will make responsible decisions, with fully informed consent on the part of the patient, as to the necessity for admission to hospital and the timing of surgery in light of the prevalence of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a class=\"anchor_post\" href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/240405\/parkruns-across-the-world-halt-victoria-lake-parkrun-no-different\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Parkruns across the world halt, Victoria Lake Parkrun no different<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>\u201cPatients are advised to contact their admitting doctors to confirm the necessity for admission to the hospital and the timing of surgery as a precautionary measure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lockdown does, however, impact non-essential services and as a result, all in-hospital coffee and curio shops will be closed from midnight on March 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a responsible corporate citizen, we are ensuring that the risk of infection of all patients, employees, doctors, and visitors to our hospitals is reduced through general Covid-19 screening before entering our facilities,\u201d said van Loggerenberg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes the provision of hand sanitisers and a brief verbal travel history and wellness\/health check.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Visiting hours, and the number of visitors, had already been restricted to reduce the number of people accessing Life Healthcare facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The level of these restrictions will be further increased with effect from Friday.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a class=\"anchor_post\" href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/241341\/watch-dr-manning-bertha-gxowa-ceo-speaks-hospitals-precautionary-measures-place-response-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Watch: Dr Manning, Bertha Gxowa CEO speaks on the hospital\u2019s precautionary measures in place in response to Covid-19<\/a><\/h4>\n<p><strong>The new restrictions are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 All visiting hours for general wards, ICU and High Care units will be suspended.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Nurseries and neonatal intensive care units (NICUs): one parent at a time will be allowed to visit newborns, the parent will be subject to strict screening criteria prior to hospital admission.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Paediatric wards: only one parent at a time will be permitted to sleep-in with an admitted paediatric patient. The parent will be subject to strict screening criteria prior to hospital admission.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Critically ill patients: visitors will be allowed, by exception, and only with the consent of the hospital manager.
