Eskom Hld SOC Ltd (@Eskom_SA) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Eskom_SA\/status\/1237418519140196352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 10, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<div><span lang=\"EN-US\">Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN-US\">The power utility appeals to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN-US\">Please switch off geysers, as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>ALSO READ:\u00a0<\/strong><strong><a class=\"anchor_post\" href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/199017\/new-solution-to-overcoming-power-outages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New solution to overcoming power outages<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>How do the different loadshedding stages work, here are three examples:\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stage One<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"head-video\">Stage one is implemented when Eskom requests a loadshedding range from between 10MW to 300MW.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIn this stage areas to be affected are divided into two equal load sizes to accommodate Eskom load reduction needs,\u201d Gadebe said.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf the metro schedule has eight areas in a block to be affected , only four of the eight areas may be affected on day one and the other remaining four areas will be affected on day two.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stage Two<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When stage two is declared, the metro\u2019s schedules are implemented in full.<\/p>\n<p>If there are eight areas in a block, all eight areas will be affected.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stage Three\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<div id=\"twenty_seventeen_advert_slider\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>When Eskom\u2019s grid in under severe pressure stage three is implemented.<\/p>\n<div id=\"twenty_seventeen_advert_slider\">\u201cStage three is completely out of the metro\u2019s control and is implemented by Eskom to protect the national grid from collapsing and to avoid a blackout.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Loadshedding stages now range from stage one to eight.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>To assist in reducing the stages of loadshedding, Eskom appeals to customers to continue to use electricity sparingly by:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Setting air-conditioners to an average temperature of 23\u00baC.<br \/>\n\u2022 Switching off geysers over peak periods.<br \/>\n\u2022 Using the cold water tap rather than using hot water every time.<br \/>\n\u2022 Setting your swimming pool pump cycle to run twice a day, three hours at a time for optimal energy use.<br \/>\n\u2022 At the end of the day, turn off computers, copiers, printers and fax machines at the switch.
