alcohol is unsafe during pregnancy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is no amount of alcohol that&#8217;s known to be safe to consume during pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>If you drink during pregnancy, you place your baby at risk of foetal alcohol syndrome.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Foetal alcohol syndrome causes brain damage and growth problems.<\/p>\n<p>The problems caused vary from child to child, but defects caused by foetal alcohol syndrome are irreversible.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Signs and symptoms may include any mix of physical defects, intellectual or cognitive disabilities, and problems functioning and coping with daily life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physical defects may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Distinctive facial features, including wide-set eyes, an exceptionally thin upper lip, a short, upturned nose, and a smooth skin surface between the nose and upper lip.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Deformities of joints, limbs and fingers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Slow physical growth before and after birth.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Vision difficulties or hearing problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Small head circumference and brain size.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Heart defects and problems with kidneys and bones.<\/p>\n<p>Problems with the brain and central nervous system may include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Poor coordination or balance.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Intellectual disability, learning disorders and delayed development.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Poor
