enter the new year united and determined"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members from the Umkhonto weSizwe National Council (MKNC) from branches across Gauteng met at the Germiston Civic Centre, recently, for a special cadres\u2019 assembly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis special event saw 300 members from Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, West Rand, Greater Johannesburg and Tshwane, coming together,\u201d explained Mogotlane.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe day was a great success and we managed to consolidate our desire to unite and preserve our history, heritage and legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the event members discussed unity and the importance of credible and accountable leadership which they hope to carry into the new target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MKNC will not be forgotten<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The assembly was held after a peaceful demonstration, outside the Germiston Civic Centre, by MKNC, in October, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation\u2019s members, dressed in the bright yellow and green of the ANC, held up signs listing their demands and handed over a petition with a number of grievances, demands and dissatisfaction, to the metro.<\/p>\n<p>Among the demands were:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Recognition of MKNC in Ekurhuleni.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Employment of MKNC military veterans within the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Implementation of the ANC\u2019s 54th National Conference resolution that Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) and MKNC have equal representation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Implementation of the Vukuphile Empowerment Programme within the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Participation of MKNC in the ANC regional structure.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Deployment of eight MKNC military veterans within Ekurhuleni as liaison officers.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a class=\"anchor_post\" Germiston<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Since the demonstration MKNC has received no feedback from the metro, according to spokesperson Eugene Mogotlane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date not a single demand was addressed by the metro. said Mogotlane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the day of our protest a meeting took place between MKNC\u2019s regional executive committee and the ANC regional office bearer (ROB).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the meeting all our demands were tabled and discussed and it was agreed (by both parties) that the ANC ROB needed time to work through the demands and consult with different departments within the metro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were promised feedback would be given after 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date no follow-up meeting has been scheduled, and attempts to reach the office of the ANC have been unsuccessful,\u201d said Mogotlane.<\/p>\n<p>Mogotlane explained that moving forward the regional leadership of the MKNC military veterans plan to go back to their constituency to decide on a plan of action.<\/p>\n<p>The GCN sent a query to the metro to ask when the MKNC\u2019s demands would be addressed, but at the time of going to press no response had been
