supports breast cancer survivors with generous donation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recovering from breast cancer requires a lot of emotional support.<\/p>\n<p>Many women feel uncomfortable about their appearance after surgery.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>For this reason, SPAR Inland recently donated more than R200 000 to the Reach for Recovery organisation.<\/p>\n<p>The money will be used to provide subsidised silicon breast prosthesis and loving support to breast cancer patients in state hospitals across the country.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The generous donation forms part of SPAR\u2019s Women\u2019s Day Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>During the month of August, SPAR invited shoppers in various regions to add R1 to their purchase at the till point.<\/p>\n<p>All funds collected during Women\u2019s Month were donated to Reach for Recovery.<\/p>\n<p>To sweeten the deal, the organisation received a second donation of R85 000 from the SPAR Women\u2019s Challenge 10km\/15km race.<\/p>\n<p>The annual race took place on October 6.<\/p>\n<p>Stephanie van Deventer, Reach for Recovery national manager, said the organisation supports more than 5 000 breast cancer patients every year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important for women who have had breast cancer, to return to their daily lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Reach for Recovery, our goal is to assist these women to regain their self-confidence and resume their role in society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOften times these women are the breadwinners and have to get back to work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: for Recovery is a non-medical support organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers provide emotional care and practical support to those affected by breast cancer in both private and state hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>These volunteers are also breast cancer survivors.<\/p>\n<p>Van Deventer said prosthetic breasts, which are provided to patients in state hospitals, help women who underwent mastectomies to feel like women again.<\/p>\n<p>She thanked SPAR and all customers who donated wholeheartedly to the cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you from the bottom of my heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot remember when the last time was that we received such a generous donation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery cent will make a big difference,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen Bailie, SPAR Inland advertising manager, said, \u201cWe are very proud of our retailers and the community who came together to raise this money during Women\u2019s Month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReach for Recovery is a deserving beneficiary which has done amazing work by supporting women suffering from breast cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The international breast cancer support group and volunteers aim to assist women with breast cancer to return to their daily lives.<\/p>\n<p>The non-profit organisation is sustained through fund-raising activities and sponsorships in order to provide services free of charge to
