{"id":220410,"date":"2019-10-16T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/220410\/elsburg-police-flourish-in-new-station\/"},"modified":"2019-10-15T13:29:49","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T11:29:49","slug":"elsburg-police-flourish-in-new-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2019\/10\/16\/elsburg-police-flourish-in-new-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Elsburg police flourish in new station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been seven months since the Elsburg police moved to their new police station in Wadeville.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_220414\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-220414\" style=\"width: 520px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-220414\" src=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/10\/41GCNGENERALELSB_96198-520x390.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2019\/10\/41GCNGENERALELSB_96198-520x390.jpg 520w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2019\/10\/41GCNGENERALELSB_96198-270x203.jpg 270w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2019\/10\/41GCNGENERALELSB_96198-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2019\/10\/41GCNGENERALELSB_96198.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-220414\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new Elsburg Police Station can be found in Nagington Road, in Wadeville.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The GCN visited the new station located at 100 Nagington Road on Thursday to speak to Elsburg SAPS station commander Col Linah Thethe and find out the reasons behind the move.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe officially moved here in April,\u201d explained Thethe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe moving process began years ago after research was done and it was found that the ground the old police station was built on was full of dolomite and not fit for human habitation.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cSo it was recommended that we move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the process began long ago, and in time a suitable building was found within our policing precinct and we were able to move.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/218509\/man-allegedly-steals-copper-from-employer\/\" target=\"_blank\">Man allegedly steals copper from employer<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The building was selected as it is centrally located within the Elsburg policing precinct and allowed officers to continue their duties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no hiccups in our officers responding to calls or performing their duties,\u201d said Thethe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur services to the community have not been interrupted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked how the community was adjusting to the move Thethe explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur community are adjusting well and they were informed of the move both before and after,\u201d said Thethe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only residents who may have difficulties finding us are those who do not live in the area, but there is a notice at the old station that directs them to our new location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we haven\u2019t had many reports or complaints from the community that they are struggling to find us.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class='tie-fluid-width-video-wrapper tie-ignore-fitvid' style='margin-bottom: 30px;'>\n\t\t\t<iframe style='width: 100%; Here volunteer Willem Coetzee and Const Daphney Phooko (communications officer for the Elsburg police) sit in the centre\u2019s trauma room.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The GCN spoke to volunteer Willem Coetzee who shared a little bit more about the centre and what they do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe centre provides free trauma counselling for victims of rape, hijacking, armed robbery, domestic violence and other crimes,\u201d said Coetzee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are there to support the victim throughout their crime process whatever that may be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe offer advice and explain what steps need to be taken, but always in a supportive way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The centre is in need of more volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need more volunteers as we head into our busy season,\u201d said Coetzee.<\/p>\n<p>The role of the volunteer is to be there as support for the victim of crime, by defusing situations, debriefing, and providing emotional and practical support.<\/p>\n<p>For more
