{"id":219260,"date":"2019-10-02T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-02T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/219260\/telling-a-story-through-music\/"},"modified":"2019-10-02T15:09:44","modified_gmt":"2019-10-02T13:09:44","slug":"telling-a-story-through-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/lifestyle-news\/entertainment-news\/2019\/10\/02\/telling-a-story-through-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Telling a story through music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cOur community has such a special vibe and its own unique stories to tell and we hope to express this in our music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These are the words of Nkosinathi Hadebe (25), one of the members of a local music group, Latin Extreme Music.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Nkosinathi, who performs under the name Da Coffee, with band mates 29-year-old Sifiso Hadebe (DJ Kam), 19-year-old Refous Matleke (Tumi) and 21-year-old Sphelele Mbatha (Native) call Dukathole their home.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a class=\"anchor_post\" href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/162642\/music-to-make-you-happy-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Music to make you happy<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>\u201cWe have not always lived in Dukathole,\u201d explained Nkosinathi.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cSifiso, Sphelele and I are originally from KwaZulu-Natal and Refous is from Limpopo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the one thing that has always been the same is our love and passion for music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Latin Extreme Music, which falls into the deep-house genre, is a multi-layered band. The band members not only write and produce their own songs and music and play their own instruments, but they also help other musicians in their music production.<\/p>\n<div src='https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/DgVLn5U3xtQ' loading='lazy'><\/iframe>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWith our own music, we focus more on the music, beats and production and when we need vocals we will hold auditions to find the perfect vocalist,\u201d said Sifiso.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen auditioning for a vocalist it really is all about the voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked what inspires their music, Nkosinathi explained that everyday life inspires them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe watch the highs and lows our community goes through and we draw inspiration from that,\u201d Nkosinathi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to tell the community\u2019s stories in a unique and real way and in a way they can relate to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band, which has worked with international producers in the past, hopes to sign to a record label in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is hard work doing everything for yourself as a band because we not only have to work on our music, but work on his soul<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Refous agreed. \u201cWe then have to take time away from the music to work on promotion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother problem we face is that sometimes we do not have the money to make it to gigs we are invited to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that with the right record label this will no longer be a problem and we can begin to build a better life for ourselves focused on music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about their future plans, the band, which won a trophy at the Germiston SAPS Youth Day celebrations in Dukathole in 2018 for their music, explained they will be releasing a new album and a single, Zulu Liyaduma, in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIdeally in five years, we would love to see ourselves making waves internationally,\u201d said
