{"id":218852,"date":"2019-09-24T11:00:19","date_gmt":"2019-09-24T09:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=218852"},"modified":"2019-09-24T20:32:36","modified_gmt":"2019-09-24T18:32:36","slug":"safety-around-braai-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2019\/09\/24\/safety-around-braai-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety around the braai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0family braai is a great way to spend Heritage Day, commonly known as Braai Day.<\/p>\n<p>A braai should be a safe and enjoyable experience but it\u2019s all too easy to be distracted when you have friends and family around you while cooking.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"head-video\">To avoid injuries or damage to property, follow these simple precautions:<\/div>\n<p>\u2022 Ensure the braai is on a flat site, well away from fences, trees or overhanging shrubs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Never leave young children unattended in the vicinity of a hot braai, and don\u2019t let<br \/>\nthem play close by.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u2022Never leave the braai unattended and don\u2019t try to move it while it\u2019s lit.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022If it\u2019s windy, ensure the wind is blowing away from you when you light the braai.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/218554\/look-others-heat\/\" target=\"_blank\">Look after yourself and others in the heat<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>\u2022 Loose fitting, flowing clothing is a hazard as it can be blown over the flames and<br \/>\nignite.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Don\u2019t use flammable accelerants, such as paraffin or petrol.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Have a fire extinguisher or the garden hose handy or close by in the event of a serious<br \/>\nflare-up. But if it\u2019s a grease fire DO NOT use water as it will spread the grease and<br \/>\nflare up.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Don\u2019t put ashes straight into a dustbin or wheelie bin \u2013 if they are still
