{"id":217544,"date":"2019-09-10T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/217544\/know-your-cpfs-mandate\/"},"modified":"2019-09-10T15:25:23","modified_gmt":"2019-09-10T13:25:23","slug":"know-your-cpfs-mandate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2019\/09\/10\/know-your-cpfs-mandate\/","title":{"rendered":"Know your CPF\u2019s mandate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThough there are many local Community Policing Forums, some people still don\u2019t know what the CPF stands for and what its purpose is within a community,\u201d said Pine Pienaar, vice-chairperson of Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF, Germiston Station.<\/p>\n<p>Community Policing Forums were established under sections 18 to 23 of the South African Police Services Act (Act 68 of 1995) with the aim of involving all local stakeholders and key organisations in local policing.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/217196\/community-invited-to-cpf-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\">Community invited to CPF meeting<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>\u201cGermiston\u2019s CPF has a mandate, which it needs to follow to make community policing successful,\u201d said Pienaar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also important for each and every individual of the community to realise and accept that they also have a social and moral obligation to assist and support the SAPS in the fight against crime, as well as other forms of social disorder.\u201d<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>What role does the CPF perform in society?<\/p>\n<p>1. The CPF ensures the efficient and appropriate service delivery of safety and security to the community.<\/p>\n<p>2. CPF members address complaints against the police on behalf of the community and against criminal elements in a particular community, on behalf of policing partners.<\/p>\n<p>3. The CPF builds communication and problem-solving channels between all policing partners and the community.<\/p>\n<p>4. The CPF produces safety plans from reported police statistics, as well as community needs and complaints regarding crime hot spots and suspicious activities.<\/p>\n<p>5. The CPF plans and participates in anti-crime exercises, which are determined by the community\u2019s complaints.<\/p>\n<p>6. The CPF facilitates safety and security meetings between the community and law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge people to become part of their various sectors\u2019 CPFs and help in fighting crime within our various communities,\u201d said Pienaar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecome proactive and involved and do not cast a blind eye to the crime and wrongdoings, which affect our safety and CPFs to mobilise community support in the fight against crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuild and support opportunities to educate and empower constructive relationships to deal with the different forms of violence and social issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pienaar further stated that crime fighting starts with a proper and effective intelligence network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s all work together and make a
