The sale ended with all of the aggregate, average and median up from last year, giving a welcome boost to the somewhat beleaguered racing industry.

The aggregate rose from R29.455-million to R32.575-m, an increase of over 10 per cent, while the sales’ average price increased from R89 802 to R103 875 (a rise of 16 per cent), while the median increased from R50 000 to R60 000 this year.

Bloodstock South Africa’s Gary Grant was understandably upbeat after the sale.

“I think it is safe to say that this sale was a resounding success,” he said.

“It gave vendors some hope in what can best be described as uncertain times in this industry.

“One of the most pleasing aspects of the sale was the significant part played by several newcomers to the racing industry.”
