Getting started is the hardest part.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ideally you should aim to save about five per cent of your income each month for unexpected expenses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Keep your emergency fund in a separate account.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is so you\u2019re not tempted to dip into it.<\/p>\n<p>Money market and tax-free savings accounts are two options to consider.<\/p>\n<p>Ideally set up an automatic transfer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Keep saving.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Save until you have enough to cover your normal household expenses for between three and six months.<\/p>\n<p>That way you\u2019ll have a reasonable cushion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.
