{"id":209955,"date":"2019-07-04T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-04T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/209955\/masego-explores-her-love-of-poetry\/"},"modified":"2019-07-04T15:11:42","modified_gmt":"2019-07-04T13:11:42","slug":"masego-explores-her-love-of-poetry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2019\/07\/04\/masego-explores-her-love-of-poetry\/","title":{"rendered":"Masego explores her love of poetry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been two years since Masego Nkuna (27) moved to Germiston and she has blossomed from a small town girl to a self-published author.<\/p>\n<p>Masego, originally from the small town of Seabe in Mpumalanga, recently released her first poetry book, Narrated in Me.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>She visited the GCN on Thursday to share her journey as an author.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a class=\"anchor_post\" href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/209907\/trio-in-desperate-need-of-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Trio in desperate need of homes before its too late<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Masego started writing the poems for her book in 2017 after being inspired by her friend Jacqueline Matjila.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cMy friend, who is a poet, knew I enjoyed writing poetry but kept it to myself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe asked me to start working on a poetry book with her and I thought why not?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we were later advised to part ways as many friendships have been ruined by book collaborations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair heeded the advice, but never stopped helping and supporting each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I got a contact or idea I thought could help her I passed it on and she would do the same for me,\u201d Masego explained.<\/p>\n<p>When asked where she draws her inspiration from she explained, \u201cI draw inspiration from daily life, personal experiences and the lives of those around me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also draw inspiration from critical issues, like abuse or human rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take my time writing. A topic or experience needs to speak to me before I can write \u2013 I cannot force it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class='tie-fluid-width-video-wrapper tie-ignore-fitvid' style='margin-bottom: loading='lazy'><\/iframe>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Self-publishing was a great option for Masego as she was in control of the process and it allowed her a chance to explore all the aspects of releasing a book from writing to release and opened her eyes to opportunities she never gave much thought to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope to one day open my own publishing company,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough self-publishing, I was able to really get involved in each step of the publishing process, which I think will help me in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Masego, who currently works at a sweets factory after finishing her studies in food technology, hopes her readers will be able to relate to her poems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone can relate to my words and find healing within them that would be staff encouraged to be healthy<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Masego is supported by her family who cannot believe how far she has come.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about her plans for the future and if more books are on the cards, Masego said, \u201cI plan to release more books, but not anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the moment I am focusing on Narrated in Me, my career, charity work and other
