EMPD High-Speed Unit members were out in full force from last weekend targeting speedsters in hotspots on both the N3 and N12 highways.<\/p>\n
Twenty-five drivers ended up behind bars for excessive speeding.<\/p>
Seven drivers, aged between 21 and 56, were apprehended on Good Friday, between 10am and 4pm on the N12 eastbound near the R59 bridge.<\/p>\n
They were caught doing speeds of 198, 188, 188, 176, 173, 170 and 161km\/h in this 120km\/h zone.<\/p>
They were all males including a pastor who claimed he was late for a service and an SBV technician advancing the reason that he was rushing to fix an ATM.<\/p>\n
The arrestees were locked up at the Alberton Police Station but released later after posting bail of R1 000 each.<\/p>\n
They were expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate\u2019s Court soon.<\/p>\n
The next day, April 20, between 6am and 10am on the N12 eastbound near the Atlas Road off-ramp which has the speed limit of 120km\/h, two speedsters, a female and a male, aged 26 and 27, respectively, ended up behind bars for clocking 188 and 166km\/h.<\/p>\n
The pair was detained at the Boksburg North Police Station.<\/p>\n
