{"id":201674,"date":"2019-04-16T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/201674\/competition-brings-elizabeth-ann-closer-to-her-dreams\/"},"modified":"2019-04-16T14:36:11","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T12:36:11","slug":"competition-brings-elizabeth-ann-closer-to-her-dreams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2019\/04\/16\/competition-brings-elizabeth-ann-closer-to-her-dreams\/","title":{"rendered":"Model sets sights on winning in America"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>She is a young woman with big dreams and slowly but surely she is turning them into a reality.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth-Ann van Aswegen (15) from Lambton shone brightly in the modelling section at the recent Talent Africa Competition.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>So well in fact that she was selected to represent South Africa at Talent America Competition, which will take place in New York, from June 22 until July 1.<\/p>\n<p>She will compete in the formal and high fashion categories at the international competition.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>In her recent competition she entered 10 categories and won the following accolades: casual, silver medal; formal, gold medal; runway, gold medal; high fashion, gold medal; swimwear, silver medal; fitness, silver medal; headshot x2, gold medal; commercial, silver medal; and catalogue, gold medal.<\/p>\n<p>When asked why she entered the competition, the Afrikaanse Ho\u00ebrskool Germiston learner said, \u201cI was motivated by my modelling coach, Charmaine Swart, from Vogue Models.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was last year\u2019s face of Talent Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth-Ann is extremely excited about the opportunity to represent South Africa overseas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see the competition as giving me the potential to grow and learn a lot and I am very excited to represent my country in America,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She also sees the competition as a way to further her career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal is to enter Miss South Africa and I would one day like to have my own modelling school,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth-Ann has two sisters, Letitia and Natasha, and three brothers, Arno, Sean and Richard, and is aunt to four pretty girls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">ALSO READ:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/201739\/enjoy-a-cup-of-tea-this-mothers-day\/\" target=\"_blank\">Enjoy a cup of tea this Mother\u2019s Day<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/201574\/health-professionals-honoured-at-khanyisa-service-excellence-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">Health professionals honoured at Khanyisa Service Excellence Awards<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Her parents, Cobes and Elize, are extremely supportive of her and are always encouraging her and helping her stay positive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey attend every pageant I compete in,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth-Ann\u2019s gran Liz Bradbury makes all her dresses for her pageants and she thanks her granny for this.<\/p>\n<p>She also thanks her granddad Martin for his support as her grandparents try to attend every competition she competes in (they travel from Pretoria to wherever she is competing).<\/p>\n<p>When she is not modelling, the youngster enjoys reading, writing and spending time with her family.<\/p>\n<p>In order to attend Talent America Elizabeth-Ann needs to raise R75 000.<\/p>\n<p>To this end she has a number of projects lined up.<\/p>\n<p>They are planning to get local artists together to perform a concert (artists can contact Elize on 078 670 5926 for more information). Elizabeth-Ann will also be selling pancakes and cupcakes, and will do recycling.<\/p>\n<p>She is also hosting a competition called Miss and Mr Sparkle 2019 Photogenic Competition.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a main entry section for ages 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16-18 and 19 and over.<\/p>\n<p>The extra categories are: Best Eyes, Best Smile, Best Pose and Best Advert.<\/p>\n<p>The top three winners in each category will win a sash and a crown, and the junior and senior overall winners will win a sash, a crown and a hamper.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact Elize on 078 670
