The new school term has brought with it new artistic challenges for 31 female Galway Primary School learners, aged between 12 and 14 years old.

The girls are being taught a host of new skills by members of the Vroue Landbou-Unie’s (VLU) Dinwiddie branch.

Women, from the 20-member strong group, visit the school each Monday, between 2pm and 3pm, to pass down their home industry skills.

The project began last year and saw the VLU members teaching the girls more about sewing, knitting and beadwork.

This term the girls will be decorating simple fabric bags with flowers, made from buttons and embroidery.

VLU member Priscilla Atkins explained how much the VLU members love teaching the children.

“It really is a lovely experience,” she said.

The girls will start work on a new project in the third term.
