officers arrest late bridegroom allegedly speeding to his wedding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bridegroom claiming to be late for his wedding was among five alleged speedsters arrested by the EMPD High-Speed Unit, last Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old man, driving a Ford SUV, was stopped at 9.34am and arrested.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The operation targeting speedsters took place on the N17 highway, between the Guthrie Road Bridge and the Heidelberg Road Bridge in Germiston, between 5.45am and 9.34am.<\/p>\n<p>Among the arrestees there was also an allegedly drunk driver.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The alleged speedsters arrested on charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>They clocked excessive speeds of between 173 and 165km\/h and were all in sedans save the bridegroom who was driving an SUV.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old driver of a VW sedan, who registered a speed of 173km\/h, was also charged with drinking and driving.<\/p>\n<p>All the arrested speedsters were charged at the Elsburg Police Station with reckless and negligent driving but later released after each posted bail of R1 000.<\/p>\n<p>They are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate\u2019s Court soon.<\/p>\n<p
