Construction of the metro\u2019s state-of-the-art building, which will house some of the municipality\u2019s departments, is taking shape in the Germiston CBD.<\/p>\n
The building, which, once it is finished, will stand as a modern landmark of Germiston, is rising on the corner of Spilsbury and Queen streets where the old SAAME building once stood.<\/p>
The old SAAME building stood for over 50 years.<\/p>\n
It will be used as the new office block for the metro and will accommodate 235 metro officials.<\/p>
The building will also house the Germiston Customer Care Centre where residents will get all services provided by the metro through face-to-face assistance by the officials.<\/p>\n
The construction of the building was started on March 1 and it is expected to be completed by June 30, next year.<\/p>\n
It entailed demolition of some parts of the old building, while retaining and repairing all that had heritage significance in line with the heritage resources legislation.<\/p>\n
Some roads have been temporarily closed due to the construction, and traffic has been redirected into alternative access streets in the Germiston CBD.<\/p>\n
