The town where this hotel is located, Matjiesfontein, used to be a command headquarters during the South African War and that would explain the mysterious ghostly appearances all too well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Foxwood House Boutique Hotel<\/h2>\n<p>in Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-190262\" src=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/10\/pic-2-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2018\/10\/pic-2-520x400.jpg 520w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2018\/10\/pic-2-300x231.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Built in 1924 and being one of the first houses in Johannesburg, Foxwood House is home to antique furniture as well as a couple of ghosts. Guests have spotted a ghost waiter in the dining room, an old man wandering in the upstairs passages, a woman dressed in a Victorian dress who stands near the staircase, while the howling of a ghost dog can often be heard from afar, making chills run down the spines of each guest that hears it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Nottingham Road Hotel<\/h2>\n<p>in Nottingham Road<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-190274\" src=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/10\/pic-4-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2018\/10\/pic-4-520x400.jpg 520w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2018\/10\/pic-4-300x231.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ghost of Charlotte, a chambermaid, is said to wander around the rooms of this hotel and especially room 10, moving vases and things, tidying clothes and straightening the bed sheets. Two drunk ghosts can be seen in the bar, while the ghosts of Ruth the governess, seven-year-old Matilda and Wisp the dog have also been sighted wandering around the premises.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Zorgvliet Wines Country Lodge<\/h2>\n<p>in Stellenbosch<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-190277\" src=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/10\/pic-7-520x388.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Zorgvliet Wines Country Lodge is located in Stellenbosch, one of the most feared areas in Western Cape, as it used to be inhabited by gangs, runaway slaves and wild animals, hidden in the dense forest. Although none of these are real threats today, the area is still feared by many, especially because of the ghosts that are believed to inhabit it. Some of them are quite naughty and they play pranks on the guests, such as turning the light switches on and off or opening and closing doors suddenly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaunted Hotels\u201d is one of Travelmyth\u2019s 45 category filters.<\/p>\n<p>The research was conducted with all hotels that are listed in at least one of the biggest online booking sites.<\/p>\n<p>The haunted category currently
