{"id":186776,"date":"2018-09-14T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/186776\/bears-and-mustangs-meet-in-germiston-derby-in-opening-match-of-rhino-cup-league\/"},"modified":"2018-09-14T14:45:24","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T12:45:24","slug":"bears-and-mustangs-meet-in-germiston-derby-in-opening-match-of-rhino-cup-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/sports-news\/2018\/09\/14\/bears-and-mustangs-meet-in-germiston-derby-in-opening-match-of-rhino-cup-league\/","title":{"rendered":"Bears and Mustangs meet in Germiston derby in opening match of Rhino Cup League"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The chilly weather did little to dampen the spirits of Germiston\u2019s Bears Rugby League Club and Mustangs Rugby League Club.<\/p>\n<p>The two clubs met in a Germiston derby, at the Elspark Sports Complex, in the Rhino Cup League, which kicked off last Saturday.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The Bears knew the match would be a tough and physical one, after the success of the Mustangs\u2019 first season last year and due to the history between the two teams.<\/p>\n<p>The Bears also needed to iron out some bumps within their own team going into the new season as they fielded a new team with four debutants and had several players out with injuries.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The new players were Jhaun Meyer, Eben Barnard, Louki Koekemoer and Hamilton Casselman.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/182946\/become-part-of-the-rugby-league-action-3\/\" target=\"_blank\">Become part of the rugby league action<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Despite all this the match offered hard-hitting action from the first to the final whistle, with the Bears coming out on top and winning the match 42-16.<\/p>\n<p>The game started with a powerful kick from the Bears which the Mustangs received, ploughing forward and making several yards, due to some silly mistakes from the Bears\u2019 defence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur new players are still finding their feet and getting used to the fast pace of rugby league, having come fresh from rugby union,\u201d explained Bears\u2019 chairperson Andries van der Merwe.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rhino League Cup kicks off for Germiston&#039;s rugby league clubs\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vtVF94TXa2s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
