You\u2019ve packed your bags and heading for the airport.<\/p>\n

Soon you\u2019ll be taking to the skies on-board your favourite airline heading for your holiday destination.<\/p>

The excitement is building but Benediction Zubane, head of the department (HOD )for marketing for Mango Airlines, maintains that things could very quickly turn pear-shaped if you haven\u2019t paid attention to the airline\u2019s baggage regulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor our guests\u2019 travel to be as safe and comfortable as possible, we have to comply with a number of international aviation safety regulations.<\/p>

<\/div>\n

\u201cThese are sometimes at the expense of our guests\u2019 appeals.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnowing what is required is crucial in ensuring a smooth check-in prior to boarding your flight,\u201d said Benediction.<\/p>\n

Helpful points to remember:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Max baggage weight<\/p>\n

Airlines will specify the baggage size limit. However, all baggage in excess of this allowance will be charged at the current rate per kilogram, each flight.<\/p>\n

They will further specify if a single piece of luggage exceeding the number of kilograms will be accepted or not for carriage.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Carry-on baggage<\/p>\n

Each guest is usually permitted one piece of cabin baggage and one slimline laptop bag, or one handbag to carry onboard.<\/p>\n

The size of the laptop bag is defined by the size of the laptop, excluding any accessories such as chargers.<\/p>\n

Cabin baggage shall not exceed (56cm + 36cm + 23cm) = 115 cm, and must not weigh more than 7kg all-inclusive. Your bag must be able to fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment.<\/p>\n

Facts to keep in mind when packing:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 For domestic flights, guests can pack their toiletries. However, on an international flight, there are restrictions of 100ml per item.<\/p>\n

These include expensive colognes, perfumes and cosmetics. If a guest has more than 100ml they will be asked to throw away the excess. This sometimes causes much unhappiness especially if the contents are expensive cosmetics.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pack your ID, money, jewellery, keys and medication in your carry-on bag and keep it with you at all times.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Valuable items should be kept on you, or kept in a smaller bag, in case the airline requests to stow your bag.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pack all electronics in your carry-on bag. Do not let this out of your sight.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Guests travelling with infants can carry a small bag catering to the in-flight needs of the infant, for example, feeding bottles, nappies, medication, etc.<\/p>\n

\u2022 It is important to note that airlines can remove cabin baggage from you, to be stowed underneath with the baggage for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main reason we comply with this process is purely for safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor example, should the overhead compartments be improperly filled with heavy luggage, they can sporadically open in the event of extreme turbulence, and that could result in an injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo make sure your luggage complies with international specifications, each of our check-in counters has convenient luggage sizes, which will help you determine whether or not your bag will be able to be stowed in the overhead compartment,\u201d Benediction added.<\/p>\n

To pack or not to pack<\/strong><\/p>\n

The following items may not be included in guests\u2019 carry-on baggage:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Toy guns<\/p>\n

\u2022 Cutlery<\/p>\n

\u2022 Knives<\/p>\n

\u2022 Scissors<\/p>\n

\u2022 Syringes<\/p>\n

\u2022 Blades<\/p>\n

\u2022 Nail clippers<\/p>\n

\u2022 Any sharp object that could be used as a weapon.<\/p>\n

Valuable items<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to note that any piece of luggage that doesn\u2019t meet our strict carry-on luggage criteria, or for any other reason, will be removed by our cabin crew.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish you a safe flight and happy travelling,\u201d said Benediction.<\/p>\n
