{"id":182176,"date":"2018-07-10T10:15:25","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T08:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=182176"},"modified":"2018-07-10T10:15:25","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T08:15:25","slug":"employee-wellness-matter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/lifestyle-news\/2018\/07\/10\/employee-wellness-matter\/","title":{"rendered":"Does employee wellness matter?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As time seems to fly by, we are left grabbing a quick meal or snack so that we can meet our deadlines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmployees may not think about it, but, wellness in the workplace is not only a means to keep employees happy, but has tremendous effects on absenteeism, presentism and productivity,\u201d said registered dietitian, Lerato Radebe.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Nathalie Mat, another registered dietitian, advised that nutrition is one of the easiest modifiable factors that controls a person\u2019s energy levels and productivity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA company\u2019s culture can perpetuate or inhibit healthy eating. I have experience of many companies where health is still not prioritised, leading to poor nutrition and health overall,\u201d said Mat.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Radebe added that wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As nutrition is at the centre of wellness, some guidelines are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create and maintain wellness awareness programmes through advocacy, engaging a dietitian and other wellness professionals.<\/li>\n<li>Generate interest in employee wellness programmes (EWP) by adding value and that inspires employees to make lifestyle changes.<\/li>\n<li>Have healthy options accessible and change to healthier options in the canteen. Ditch the biscuits and muffins for meeting and replace with bowls of fresh fruit and, ultimately, make water the primary drink of choice.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage line managers to discuss health with their teams and bring in professional dieticians for staff that ask for assistance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-below-post-content\">\n<div class='tenancy_slot tenancy_slot_1 jannah_ad' style='display: none;' data-query-id='2d8ed2960c07d2010845335aa1083637'><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Employees spend between 40 to 60 hours a week at work.
