set to test their stamina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the high demand for a 5150 triathlon in the Gauteng region, the Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni will again take place in Germiston.<\/p>\n<p>The race is set to take place on October 21 at Germiston Lake.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The event has been successfully hosted at Germiston Lake since 2013 attracting close to 1 400 athletes each year since its inception.<\/p>\n<p>It has grown to become the biggest standard distance triathlon in South Africa.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>In addition to thousands of amateur athletes, the event was frequented by South African Olympic triathletes along with some of South Africa\u2019s best long-distance triathletes.<\/p>\n<p>Werner Smit, the race director of the Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni said, \u201cIt is always id=\"caption-attachment-181974\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The course will feature a 40km bike ride.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWith such a massive triathlon following in the Gauteng region, the event is always welcomed with open arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to hosting a quality event that we know our athletes enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 5150 triathlon (pronounced, fifty-one-fifty) takes the format of an Olympic distance triathlon featuring a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run.<\/p>\n<p>Widely regarded as an ideal introduction distance into competitive triathlon, the Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni course starts with a 1.5km swim in Germiston Lake, and then heads out onto the 40km bike course along the N17 highway, turning at the Dalpark Toll Plaza.<\/p>\n<p>The 10km run takes athletes next to the lake through the park towards the Germiston Golf Club and finishes in the park.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">ALSO distance, specially designed to accommodate our first-time triathletes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis shortened distance sets the scene for a fun, non-threatening environment with relaxed rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerfect for you to get your family and friends together for a friendly wager,\u201d said Smit.<\/p>\n<p>The FUNTRI distance features a 400m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.<\/p>\n<p>The FUNTRI will be available to athletes 14 years and older.<\/p>\n<p>Team entries are available with two or three people per team.<\/p>\n<p>Entries for the 2018 Standard Bank 5150
