Road to be reopened on July 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trucks weighing over 40 tons have been using inner Barvallen residential roads due to roadworks on Barbara Road.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing roadworks which were expected to be completed by the end of June hit a bump in their development plan process due to corroded stormwater pipes.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Stormwater pipes had to be upgraded, as well as the electricity infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>During this time, residents experienced a number of water outages and grew impatient with the metro.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_181735\" 1<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to an influx of complaints, I recently held a public meeting with residents to address their complaints which included rehabilitation of streets due to potholes, ruined paving and the shortage of water supply in the area during roadworks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand the inconvenience that this process has inflicted on residents, we just require residents to be patient,\u201d said Ward 92 councillor Tiziana Plaskitt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther issues raised were traffic congestion as many trucks have been diverted to the inner roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a response, we liaised with the EMPD who took up shifts to monitor traffic in the area and we\u2019ve seen motorists complying with the temporary speed limits,\u201d said Plaskitt.<\/p>\n<figure municipal officials<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The budget for infrastructure was estimated at R8-million.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the budget was the reconditioning of surrounding streets which now have potholes and irregularities due to heavy vehicles passing through daily.<\/p>\n<p>Affected streets include Ronald Street, Richard Avenue, Armada Road and Serenade Road.<\/p>\n<p>Rehabilitation of the surrounding streets is expected to be completed by the end of July.<\/p>\n<p>Roadworks on Barbara Road are expected to be finished by July 6.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-181730
