Supa Quick Fishers\u2019 Hill showed their support for breast cancer awareness by providing free clinical breast examinations on their Pink Day on Friday.<\/p>\n

This initiative driven by Bridgestone, #PinkValveCaps and Pink Drive encourages women to get frequent examinations because early detection is still the best way to beat cancer.<\/p>

\u201cThis initiative is close to my heart because I lost my mother to breast cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo weeks after it was detected we laid her to rest.<\/p>

\u201cShe died from inflammatory breast cancer which is a rare cancer and unfortunately it was detected at stage four.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt blocks certain vessels in the skin covering the breast and your breasts become red, swollen, heavy and tender,\u201d said Sharon Hiscock, office manager at Supa Quick Fishers\u2019 Hill.<\/p>\n

Pink Drive also provided breast check guidelines to help women perform these examinations monthly:<\/p>\n

Step One: Stand in front of a mirror, look carefully for changes to any part of your breast, like the shape, size or a discharge.<\/p>\n

Step Two: Place your arm behind your head, use the opposite hand and gently move your fingertips in circular movements around your breast. Feel for lumps, thickening or changes. Be thorough and also check your armpits. Repeat on the other breast.<\/p>\n

Remember the above can be done standing or lying down with one arm behind your head.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen should do these examinations monthly, seven days after their menstrual period.<\/p>\n
