responds to Pharoe Park residents protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Ekurhuleni Housing Company (EHC) has responded to demands made during a protest by\u00a0Pharoe Park.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Residents of the housing project located on the outskirts of the Germiston CBD, marched through the streets of the city on Thursday in protest against poor service delivery and what they deem the exploitation of low-income households.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a by metro<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>EHC explaining that it, as an entity of the metro, was mandated to deal with the rental and social housing stock.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>They further explained that the income threshold for people occupying these units at\u00a0Pharoe Park ranges from R3 500 to R15 000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the basic conditions of occupying units is that you should have a monthly income and a confirmation letter of employment is requested when applying and ITC checks are done on all applications,\u201d said Dumisani Dlamini, acting CEO.<\/p>\n<p>EHC stated that they are aware of the residents&#8217; grievances and that meetings had been held.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a tenants meeting at Pharoe and the tenants\u2019 committee was present and rental issues were discussed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EHC management advised tenants that rent will increase on July 1, as stipulated in their signed lease agreements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rental increase will be 5.5 per cent which is below the CPI and this has been the norm since EHC was established,\u201d said issues with the MMC of Human Settlements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe matter is being handled by the metro,\u201d said Dlamini.<\/p>\n<p>The metro is yet to respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p
