{"id":180931,"date":"2018-06-21T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-21T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/180931\/show-your-support-for-the-panties-and-bras-for-a-purpose-campaign\/"},"modified":"2018-06-21T11:00:21","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T09:00:21","slug":"show-your-support-for-the-panties-and-bras-for-a-purpose-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2018\/06\/21\/show-your-support-for-the-panties-and-bras-for-a-purpose-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Show your support for the Panties and Bras for a Purpose campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The aim of this campaign is to shine a spotlight on disadvantaged young girls and to help empower them and develop their potential.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe made it our priority to ensure that no girl will be deprived of her education because of a lack of physical needs such as sanitary pads, school stationery or uniforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also believe that social and economic empowerment of women is the beginning of the end of poverty in our communities,\u201d says Florence Khoza, a founding member of Panties and Bras for a Purpose campaign.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-100083 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/africanreporter.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2018\/06\/10x4_51193-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Langaville Primary School, in Tsakane, and Nkumbulo High School, in KwaThema, have been recognised as two of the schools that require such assistance.<\/p>\n<p>An activation will be held at the Springs Mall on June 30, where members of the community are encouraged to assist with donating required necessities for underprivileged girls.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Also read:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/africanreporter.co.za\/98240\/panties-bras-comes-to-the-east\/\" target=\"_blank\">Panties and Bras come to the East<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>With various sanitary towel campaigns taking place around the country, such as the Happy Days campaign, these initiatives highlight the fact that many young girls still struggle with getting sanitary towels, panties and bras.<\/p>\n<p>According to Nkuli Nzimande, one of the other founders of Panties and Bras for a Purpose campaign, some of the girls don\u2019t take part in extra-mural activities at school because they do not have the necessary underwear, tampons and pads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Also read:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/africanreporter.co.za\/86803\/special-need-girls-get-sanitary-pad-donation\/\" target=\"_blank\">Special need girls get sanitary pad donation<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Panties and Bras for a Purpose campaign, various collection points have been set up around Ekurhuleni, including all Caxton East and South offices, where members of the community can donate panties, bras, sanitary pads and tampons.<\/p>\n<p>Donations can be delivered to the African Reporter and Springs Advertiser offices at 48 Fifth Avenue, Springs CBD.<\/p>\n<p>The collection campaign will run until the end of July.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other drop-off points are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Eyeland Optometrists, East Rand Mall.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Langaville Primary School, in Tsakane.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Nkumbulo High School, in KwaThema.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Auto Alpina Springs &#8211;
