The metro has alleviated the plight of Makause Informal Settlement residents whose shacks were destroyed by a recent fire by rebuilding their shacks.<\/p>\n

The rebuilding took place last Friday.<\/p>

In addition to rebuilding the destroyed shacks, the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) gave the affected residents disaster relief aid which included blankets and food parcels.<\/p>\n

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Human Settlements Clr Lesiba Mpya\u00a0 Clr Lesiba Mpya led a team of city officials during the Siyaqhuba service delivery programme last Friday to rebuild the shacks.<\/p>

\u201cAs the metro, we are responding to the call from our destitute residents affected by the disaster.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the residents here lost everything, and as the pro-poor city, we are bound by our own commitment to serve them and put a roof over their heads,\u201d said Mpya.<\/p>\n
