Falsified cases are taking valuable state resources away from more serious cases and crime prevention efforts,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose police.

If it is found that a case is fake, the complainant will be arrested and charged with perjury.

“The other challenge we are experiencing is that residents who stay in the informal settlements often open cases but are paid off by the accused, or the accused’s family, to either withdraw the case or to leave the area,” said Maome.

ALSO READ: <a href="https://germistoncitynews.co.za/177970/katlehong-saps-open-inquest-after-body-is-found/"
