paddlers show their river-racing skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Victoria Lake Canoe Club (VLC) based at Germiston Lake were out in full force, on Saturday, for the first river race of the new racing season which kicked off recently.<\/p>\n<p>And the paddlers had a very good race.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The winner was Richard Cele, a coach at VLC and the club\u2019s top paddler, with numerous Dusi and Non-Stop Dusi medals to his credit, who finished in a time of 1:31:30.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_178029\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-178029\" style=\"width: 520px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"caption-attachment-178029\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The top two finishers in the first river race of the season organised by the WatUni Canoe Club, last Saturday, were Richard Cele (VLC coach and top paddler), who came in first, and Loveday Zondi (Soweto Canoe Club), who came second.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He was just two ticks ahead of Loveday Zondi from the Soweto Canoe Club, who came in second.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Mark Handley from VLC was the third finisher (he competes in the masters age category &#8211; 50 years and older).<\/p>\n<p>Handley chased Cele and Zondi all the way and finished in a time of 1:35:00.<\/p>\n<p>VLC\u2019s Katiso Hlahatsi was the fourth K1 paddler to cross the finish Klip to Meyerton, over a distance of 22km, in pleasant, sunny autumn conditions with a good water level.<\/p>\n<p>It was organised by the North West University Club campus in Vanderbijlpark, known as
