in the winter with avos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Locally grown avocados are a very good reason to get excited about the upcoming winter!<\/p>\n<p>Predictions are that we can look forward to a fantastic avo season and autumn is an ideal time to create a scrumptious salad crowned with avos.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>There are loads of salad greens and vegetables in season right now that are perfect for salads and of course local avos are everywhere to be found too.<\/p>\n<p>For those of you who might be feeling a touch of the autumn chill, there\u2019s no reason not to add generous helpings of diced avo to warm salads.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Sound strange?\u00a0 Be adventurous &#8211; try roasted veg and pasta; grilled butternut and feta; chicken breast and coriander pesto; or grilled prawns and pink grapefruit \u2013 and then just add an avo or two.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">ALSO READ:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a that we love and how they are grown<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Not only do avos complete every salad, they also contain no cholesterol, are virtually free from sodium, they\u2019re high in monounsaturated fat and a good source of potassium.<\/p>\n<p>Avocados are also approved as part of the Heart and Stroke Foundation eating plan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meal in a bowl \u2013 avocado, quinoa, chickpea warm \u201csalad\u201d:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Serves 4 &#8211; 6 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 ripe avocados, peeled and quartered<\/li>\n<li>1 cup quinoa<\/li>\n<li>1 x 410g tin chickpeas, drained<\/li>\n<li>30g flat leaf parsley<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cook the quinoa by placing 1 cup quinoa in a pot with 2 cups water, bring to the boil, reduce heat to a simmer, cover and cook for 12 minutes until water is evaporated, fluff with a fork and the grains should be swollen and glassy.<\/li>\n<li>Toss all the ingredients together, season with sea salt and black pepper, and serve warm with lemon wedges and olive oil.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_177158\" Savoy cabbage, pear and cranberry salad:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Serves 4 &#8211; 6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 ripe avocados, peeled and sliced<\/li>\n<li>2 ripe pears, sliced<\/li>\n<li>1 Savoy cabbage, shredded (can substitute with chicory or Chinese cabbage)<\/li>\n<li>50g dried cranberries<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons dukkah spice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat a griddle pan until smoking and grill slices of pear, until lightly browned.<\/li>\n<li>Toss all the ingredients together,
