A male passenger was killed instantly when the vehicle he was travelling in on Sunday rolled several times on the N3 South highway, at the Elands Interchange.<\/p>\n

The male driver and two female passengers were critically injured in the crash.<\/p>

After rolling, the vehicle came to rest in the middle island between the N3 South and Northbound carriageways.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crash happened at about 7.56am and it is alleged the vehicle was travelling at a very high speed on the southbound carriageway,\u201d said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS).<\/p>

A rescue team and paramedics from the Germiston Central Fire Station, as well as paramedics from private ambulance services, swiftly responded to the scene after the call was received via the metro\u2019s emergency call centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpecialised rescue tools (Jaws of Life) had to be used to free all four patients from the wreckage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe injured were transported to various hospitals for further medical care,\u201d said Ntladi.<\/p>\n

The male patient and one of the female patients were transported to the Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital and the other female patient was airlifted to the Sunshine Hospital in Benoni by the ER24 and OnePlan Medical helicopter.<\/p>\n

The deceased passenger\u2019s body was removed from the scene by forensic pathologists after on-scene investigations were conducted by EMPD officers.<\/p>\n

The N3 North highway had to be temporarily closed to traffic to create a landing zone for the medical helicopter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cause of the crash is still undetermined and is under investigation by law enforcement units,\u201d said Ntladi.<\/p>\n
