The Primrose police are once again appealing to the community not to open false cases, as this is a chargeable offence.

“We are experiencing on-going challenges as an increasing number of residents are opening false cases at the station,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

These cases are a waste of the station’s manpower and resources, which could have been better utilised on crime prevention efforts or the investigation of serious crimes.

“We have discovered that residents will often gamble with their vehicles and when they lose they claim it was stolen or they were hijacked.

“In other instances, the community will use the pending criminal case as leverage to make debtors pay outstanding money, with the promise that they will withdraw the case when the money is paid.

“These actions will not be tolerated,” said Maome.

To report crimes to police the community can call 011 842 0522 or 071 675 6864/5/6/7/8/9.
