rains cause \u2018sinkhole\u2019 in Makause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The continuous heavy rain residents of Ekurhuleni have been experiencing in the past three days has badly affected many communities in the metro, Makause informal settlement being one of them.<\/p>\n<p>Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded to a call to investigate a \u2018sinkhole\u2019 in the area yesterday afternoon.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<h4>ALSO READ: <a the area yesterday afternoon and we identified a hole in the area, but it is not a sinkhole.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSix shacks situated near the hole were mildly affected by the shift, but residents of those shacks refused to be relocated to a place of safety yesterday.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we have organised a team from the department who will speak to the residents and explain the importance of the move to them,\u201d said William Ntladi, the district manager media liaison for DEMS.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>ALSO weather<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>According to Ntladi, Makause is known to have been a mining ground years ago.<\/p>\n<p>They are still investigating the size of the hole and the damage it caused.<\/p>\n<p>DEMS
