{"id":175234,"date":"2018-03-19T15:23:16","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T13:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=175234"},"modified":"2018-03-19T15:31:30","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T13:31:30","slug":"alert-city-come-stand-still-ekurhuleni-taxi-industry-stage-protest-march-mayors-office-germsiston-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2018\/03\/19\/alert-city-come-stand-still-ekurhuleni-taxi-industry-stage-protest-march-mayors-office-germsiston-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"ALERT: City to come to a stand-still as Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry to stage protest march to the mayor\u2019s office in Germiston tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry (ETI) under the Ekurhuleni leadership of the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) and the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) will stage a<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/174965\/taxi-drivers-to-march-over-brt\/\" target=\"_blank\"> protest march to the offices of the executive mayor and the speaker of council of the metro in Germiston<\/a> <\/strong>tomorrow (Tuesday).<\/p>\n<p>The march will start at the Germiston Taxi Rank at 10am and proceed to the Germiston Civic Centre.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The ETI will present a memorandum of demands in relation to the roll-out of the Harambee Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System.<\/p>\n<p>Due to this anticipated protest, which will take place throughout Ekurhuleni, the\u00a0metro has decided to suspend\u00a0bus services for the day, as a precautionary measure \u2013 following a threat of violence.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/173796\/a-new-hygienic-era-for-germiston-taxi-rank\/\" target=\"_blank\">A new hygienic era for Germiston Taxi Rank<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>\u201cCommuters are encouraged to seek alternative modes of transport for tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding,\u201d said spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe.<\/p>\n<h4>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/164345\/new-taxi-rank-for-katlehong-commuters\/\" target=\"_blank\">New taxi rank for Katlehong commuters<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The bus services will be fully operational from Thursday, March 22.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommuters will be compensated with a free ride for a lost day,\u201d said Gadebe.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the ETI said, \u201cAs the ETI, we are 100 per cent behind the Harambee BRT system.
