The Cansa Shavathon is one of South Africa\u2019s best-loved annual events in support of a very worthy cause, namely showing solidarity with those affected by cancer.<\/p>\n

Patients losing their hair is a common side-effect of many cancer treatments so shaving your head has become a symbolic gesture of support for cancer survivors and one of the focuses of the Shavathon.<\/p>

But not everyone can shave their hair or is brave enough to, so for this colouring your hair or paying a \u2018Bail Out Fee\u2019 has become a popular option.<\/p>\n

This year Fortitude Hair and Beauty Salon, DJL Hair Studio and Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly in conjunction with Mamba Security, each held a Shavathon, giving Germiston\u2019s community a chance to show their support for this worthy cause, last Saturday.<\/p>

In total, Germiston\u2019s three Shavathons raised an impressive R19 299.40 for Cansa.<\/p>\n

Fortitude Hair and Beauty Salon, held their event at Harvard Caf\u00e9 at Rand Airport.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a great day and managed to raise R5 000,\u201d said Gabriela Kleynhans, the owner of Fortitude Hair and Beauty Salon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were lucky enough to have amazing volunteers and even had a sponsored prize from Lanza, which was a family combo pack of shampoo, conditioner, pills and a shake to the value of R1 050, which went towards our raffle prize which already included a wet brush and a voucher for a cut and blow and facial from our salon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gabriela thanked Harvard Caf\u00e9 for their support.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey let us use the venue for free, sponsored food and refreshments for the volunteers and also made a donation to the cause.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so grateful for them for going the extra mile,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
