An Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from the Germiston Central Fire Station promptly responded to Kutalo Train Station, near Dukathole, immediately after receiving a call for assistance at 9.35am on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival on the scene, they found multiple patients were lying on the ground next to the platform with trauma injuries.<\/p>
\u201cIt is alleged that the train was full and passengers were hanging outside the carriages, including on the front of the train, when it approached the station platform.<\/p>\n
\u201cApparently, the patients miscalculated the distance to the platform and they crashed into the outside wall of the platform.<\/p>
\u201cThe train was travelling from Katlehong to Germiston Train Station,\u201d said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.<\/p>\n
Ntladi added that four male patients were accounted for and all sustained fractures to their lower extremities.<\/p>\n
Pre-hospital medical treatment was conducted on scene and all the patients were transported to Bertha Gxowa Hospital for further medical care.<\/p>\n
The scene was then handed over to Prasa\/Metrorail and the police to conduct their investigations on the incident.<\/p>\n
