babies born too soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>World Prematurity Day is celebrated globally, on November 17, and celebrates all the babies born too soon.<\/p>\n<p>According to the World Health Organisation, 15 million babies born worldwide are premature.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>It is estimated one in 10 newborn babies will be premature and require special care.<\/p>\n<p>Life Roseacres Hospital took the opportunity, on this special day, to educate the hospital\u2019s staff and the community on premature births.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Dr Hassina Ebrahim, a paediatrician at the hospital, who has a passion for newborn babies, with a special interest in managing pre-term babies, gave an informative talk which highlighted important facts and educated attendants on the definition of prematurity and reasons on why pre-term Friday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She also offered some insight into the management and day-to-day care of these infants.<\/p>\n<p>A premature baby is said to be any baby born prior to 37 weeks of pre-term babies has improved significantly and much can be done to prevent pre-term births and manage these little babies with the knowledge we have, and continue to gain.<\/p>\n<p><img Brittany Rothman, also educated those in attendance on the nutritional problems premature babies encounter, as well as management of these babies\u2019 nutritional needs.<\/p>\n<p>The enthusiastic
