highway accident leaves two dead and seven seriously injured"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>William Ntladi, spokesperson of the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) has confirmed that two people have been declared dead on the scene of this morning&#8217;s accident on the N17.<\/p>\n<p>Three cars and a truck were involved in a serious collision at 7.30am this morning on the <a href=\"https:\/\/springsadvertiser.co.za\/175606\/breaking-one-dead-22-vehicle-pile-n17-springs\/\" target=\"_blank\">N17 highway<\/a> at the Wit Road off-ramp.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The highway was closed in both directions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_176890\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-176890\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-176890\" src=\"https:\/\/springsadvertiser.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2017\/08\/IMG_06921_97318.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-176890\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The three light motor vehicles that collided with each other<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Three light motor vehicles, a Volkswagen Polo Classic, Toyota Avanza and Polo Vivo, and a truck <a href=\"https:\/\/springsadvertiser.co.za\/168757\/collision-kills-four\/\" target=\"_blank\">collided<\/a> and landed on the embankment next to the highway.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The drivers of the Avanza and Polo Classic were declared dead on scene and were trapped inside their vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driver of the truck was rushed to hospital as a priority one patient in critical condition as he thrown out of the vehicle,\u201d Ntladi says.<\/p>\n<p>Seven passengers, from the three vehicles, sustained serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Sunshine Hospital in Benoni for further assessment and care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll passengers who were rushed to hospital sustained fractures, they are in serious but stable condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four passengers in the Polo Vivo didn\u2019t sustain any injuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not yet to establish what occurred,\u201d says Ntladi<\/p>\n<p>Netcare 911 paramedics, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), DEMS and Gauteng Traffic Department responded to the accident.<\/p>\n<div class=\"stream-item
