A pedestrian bridge has collapsed across the N3 highway in Germiston.<\/p>\n
The highway is closed to traffic in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid using N3 highway through the Geldenhuys Interchange as it will take time to clear up the debris.<\/p>
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) received a call at 1.23am this morning (Wednesday) and both Germiston Central and Bedfordview Fire Station rescue teams swiftly responded for intervention.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn arrival, rescue team found that four vehicles, three trucks and a sedan had crashed onto the concrete bridge lying across the both sides of the highway,\u201d said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.<\/p>
\u201cA total of five patients were accounted for from all the vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cThree patients from one truck were still trapped inside the cab and two others from different vehicles escaped with minor injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n
