{"id":157104,"date":"2017-07-26T06:10:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T04:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/157104\/giving-small-businesses-a-platform\/"},"modified":"2017-07-26T16:33:02","modified_gmt":"2017-07-26T14:33:02","slug":"giving-small-businesses-a-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2017\/07\/26\/giving-small-businesses-a-platform\/","title":{"rendered":"Giving small businesses a platform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Picnic and Market event recently held at the Bonfire Park, Germiston, aimed to shine the light on small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The event is the brainchild of Nikho Mayana, from Primrose.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis is a monthly event held every last Saturday of the month where we invite small business owners to come exhibit their goods and services,\u201d said Mayana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe aim is for people to know about the small businesses in their surrounding areas and hopefully give them support because that is what they need in order for them to grow.\u201d<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Among those present and exhibiting were Thoko Nkabinde, Swai Phago and Nancy Mahlatji.<\/p>\n<p>The trio put on display their self-made head wraps, clutch bags and jewellery, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Also read:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/156874\/local-diner-gets-home-cooking\/\">Local diner gets home cooking<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/156064\/recycle-and-help-centre-raise-funds\/\">Recycle and help centre raise funds for new ceiling<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my first time attending this event and I am impressed,\u201d said Nkabinde.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are getting the much-needed exposure which is great, because it is difficult at times to get known as a small business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahlatji said such initiatives should encourage others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great platform to show people that we are doing our own thing,\u201d said Mahlatji.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also aim to motivate the youth not to waste and sit on their unique talents but to utilise them effectively and productively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of Exploit Vodka and Green World were also present at the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExploit Vodka is a new vodka made in South Africa and we are one of the distributors,\u201d said Maditsi Ramaditse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe like Mayana\u2019s event &#8211; it is well run and provides us with a much-needed platform to grow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope to attend more of her events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayana said though there are regular exhibitors, more are still welcome to join.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need more people to come and promote their businesses,\u201d said Mayana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet this event inspire the community and government to support it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event is not area-specific;
