Gathering clouds and the cold breeze last Saturday morning didn\u2019t deter community members from heeding the call to attend Raquel Barnard Stewart\u2019s (4) fund-raising event.<\/p>\n

Raquel from Primrose East was born with a congenital heart defect known as Tetrology of Fallot (GCN, June 30, \u201cLittle heart needs fixing\u201d).<\/p>

Due to her condition she needs life-saving heart surgery which costs a steep R650 000.<\/p>\n

To cover the cost of the surgery, Raquel\u2019s family held a fund-raising event at the Sunnyridge Primary School sports fields.<\/p>

Jumping castles and other forms of entertainment were among the activities enjoyed by the children on the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were worried about the weather and thought people would not attend – but they did, and it was amazing,\u201d said Raquel\u2019s grandmother, Sandra Barnard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe turnout was great and we are happy with everyone who came.\u201d<\/p>\n

Circinus Security Services, Meags Collectables, Party Animals and other craft stalls were also present to lend their support.<\/p>\n

All the money raised from the event will go into Raquel\u2019s fund.<\/p>\n

The total amount raised was R14 767.<\/p>\n

Raquel\u2019s mother, Charlene, was also grateful for the support.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo many people attending shows how much support we have,\u201d said Charlene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to everyone who came, we really appreciate the support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another event will be held to continue raising funds for Raquel.<\/p>\n

Daleen Vorster, from Celebrino EventOvation, will be holding a fund-raiser, on July 29, at Laerskool Die President, in Astronomy Road, Fishers\u2019 Hill, from 9am.<\/p>\n

There is lots of fun to look forward to with obstacle tracks, food and drinks, a climbing wall, a starship explorer, an inflatable maze, a mechanical surfboard and bull and flea market stalls.<\/p>\n
