work recognised at Bertha Gxowa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hard work and commitment of Bertha Gxowa Hospital\u2019s employees doesn\u2019t go unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital\u2019s management awarded some of the staff members at their quarterly merit awards, recently held at the hospital.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The best performing individual and best performing unit were the categories awarded.<\/p>\n<p>Day care centre teacher Cheonese Esterhuizen was the best performing individual, Siyabulela Nombaca took second place and Catherine Mokgatla came third in this category.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The support services and the asset department took the best performing unit award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe awards were introduced late last year by the CEO, Dr Nokwethemba Mtshali-Hadebe,\u201d said the hospital\u2019s communications officer, Thabile Mkhatshwa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt first, Mtshali-Hadebe introduced monthly merit awards to encourage employees to do their best but later realised that a month wasn\u2019t enough to reflect on the good work of employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe awards were then changed to quarterly merit awards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The awards were also introduced to eliminate the perceived job hierarchy and to show that each employee is important.<\/p>\n<p>Mkhatshwa said the awards have improved the attitude of the employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the staff members felt unimportant and the awards have helped boost staff morale,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe awards are a great idea as we are making good strides and they are a great build-up to the end of the year awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that soon all employees will feel important and part of the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mtshali-Hadebe shared a few words before awarding the winners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to build a culture of positive reinforcement,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look at people who are punctual, always friendly, helpful and committed to their job, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has to be on a regular and not a once-off occurrence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of you are making our lives easier and we thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The winners were given certificates and floating trophies.<\/p>\n<div
