{"id":151287,"date":"2017-05-12T11:26:56","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T09:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=151287"},"modified":"2017-05-12T16:37:19","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T14:37:19","slug":"warning-weekends-cold-front-bring-severe-thunderstorms-damaging-winds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2017\/05\/12\/warning-weekends-cold-front-bring-severe-thunderstorms-damaging-winds\/","title":{"rendered":"Warning \u2013 Weekend\u2019s cold front could bring severe thunderstorms and damaging winds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gauteng resident are encouraged to break-out their winter woolies as a cold front hits the province this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The South African Weather Service has warned Johannesburg residents to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures this weekend as a cold front sweeps in from\u00a0Mpumalanga on Friday morning, causing temperatures in Gauteng to drop to a low of nine degrees by the evening.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Temperatures are predicted to stay in the teens for the weekend returning to the low twenties by Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The cold front also brings with it the possiblity of rain and the\u00a0weather service has warned of:<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Severe Thunderstorms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Severe thunderstorms with strong winds, hail and heavy downpours are\u00a0possible over parts of Gauteng, from noon till 11pm, which may lead to localised flooding.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Damaging Winds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Strong winds are expected in places in Gauteng from Wednesday, mainly during the afternoons.<\/p>\n<p>People living in informal settlements have been urged to be careful when keeping warm, while pet owners are\u00a0urged to ensure their animals\u00a0have appropriate shelter during this time.<\/p>\n<p>Some simple tips on how to stay warm this weekend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Warm yourself first \u2013 It\u2019s easier to change your body temperature than room temperature, not to mention more eco-friendly. Instead of turning up the heat, put on another layer of clothing.<\/li>\n<li>Wear a hat \u2013 Your mom may have said that you lose 80 per cent of your body heat through your head, but that\u2019s not actually true.\u00a0If you\u2019re otherwise clothed, you\u2019ll lose heat from any surface that\u2019s exposed. So put on your hat, even if you\u2019re inside.<\/li>\n<li>Switch between hot and cold water in the shower \u2013 Hot showers immediately warm you up, but cold showers improve blood circulation
