Ekurhuleni\u2019s plans to build 100 000 houses in the next five years is on track and delivering impressive new homes.<\/p>\n
The metro launched the Mega Housing project, in 2016.<\/p>
The project made way for the construction of housing at the Germiston Fire Station and in Delville Extension Nine.<\/p>\n
MMC for Human Settlements Clr Lesiba Mpya launched the two completed social housing projects in Delville Extension Nine on April 13.<\/p>
The launch marked the completion of phase one of the project.<\/p>\n
Mpya said phase two is still under construction but also nearing completion.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are happy with the progress so far,\u201d said Mpya.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlans for the project going forward include the development of a cr\u00e8che among other things.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his address, Mpya also referred to the standard of the units.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur team at Ekurhuleni Housing Company (EHC) have produced two projects that are in a class of their own,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have changed the perception that our poor communities must be exposed to cheap and substandard products.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe metro has now embodied the concept of dignity in public housing.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople will take pride in these environments.\u201d<\/p>\n
The GCN caught up with some of the beneficiaries who are eagerly waiting to move into their homes in May.<\/p>\n
Javulani Chauke and Esther Manganyi have received the keys to their new home.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was passing by the Germiston CBD when I saw the construction works and when I inquired I was told to apply for accommodation,\u201d said Esther.<\/p>\n
\u201cI submitted all the required documents and was thrilled when my application was approved.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t explain what I am feeling right now, I am filled with joy and excitement, especially looking at the standard of our new home,\u201d said Javulani.<\/p>\n
Another couple ready to enjoy living in their new home is Pimani and Thinawanga Mavhunga.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is very neat and I am very happy,\u201d said Thinawanga.<\/p>\n
Pimani also agreed with his wife and said, \u201cThis is overwhelming; it is amazing and affordable at the same time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am impressed with what the metro has done, it is fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n
