The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni brought a motion of no confidence against the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mzwandile Masina, in a special council meeting at the Germiston Council of Chambers recently.<\/p>\n
According to Ghaleb Cachalia, the DA leader in Ekurhuleni, the motion follows the mass collapse of almost every level of service delivery.<\/p>
\u201cWe brought this motion in an effort to bring meaningful change and get the basics right for everyone in this metro,\u201d said Cachalia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe DA has been raising the issue of service delivery affecting communities throughout the metro.\u201d<\/p>
Cachalia also said that the African National Congress (ANC) failed to put Ekurhuleni communities first.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom crisis to crisis, the ANC-led coalition continues to act irresponsibly and recklessly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt continues placing its own agenda ahead of those of the communities who rely on the metro and the vulnerable have been the most affected.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ANC chief whip in Ekurhuleni, Jongizizwe Dlabathi, shared different views.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe motion purports that Masina has failed to use the resources of the municipality in the best interests of the local municipality,\u201d said Dlabathi.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn our view, this statement is not in sync with the 100 days progress report provided by Masina.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmong other things, the leadership of Masina continues to ensure that we use resources to continue to provide sustainable free basic services at an annual cost of about R2-billion.\u201d<\/p>\n
The DA\u2019s motion to remove Masina was not successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cSadly, the ANC and its coalition partners voted against our motion,\u201d said Cachalia.<\/p>\n
